Today I'm so happy to be sharing how to incorporate gratitude into your daily family life.
Too often, we overlook all the good that is in our life. The simple joys that add up to a lifetime of happiness. The truth is, what we need to be happy is often right in front of us. It is simply up to us to remember it.
Personally, I started practicing daily gratitude when I realized I wasn't happy with the amazing life that was right in front of me. I was overcome with all of these negative thoughts about myself, toward others, and life in general. Thoughts like: I'm not enough, I'll never be able to do that, I wish I were I was more like this. I was stuck in the mentality of "I HAVE to". I have to pick my kids up from school. I have clean my house. I have to cook dinner. After I shifted my mindset to one of gratitude, my "have to's" became "get to's". I get to pick up my kids from school every day and spend time with them. I get to clean my beautiful and safe home. I get to cook a delicious meal my family can enjoy together.
After deliberately practicing gratitude every day, that was when my life turned around. I feel so much more happy, optimistic, and connected with my family. If you also struggle with negative self-talk that keeps you from enjoying the life that you have, I hope that hearing these tips allows you to discover all the good that is in your life right now.
Let's get started. Here are some tips on how I was able to reframe my mind and incorporate gratitude into our daily family life.
Pick a quote or affirmation
Every week I pick a quote or affirmation from my "wisdom journal" - the place I write down all the quotes/phrases I connected with from reading books and listening to podcasts. For a long time, I collected quotes on sticky notes, or in random journals, but recently, I started committing to putting everything in this "wisdom journal" with the intention of one day passing it on to my kids so that it will also inspire and give hope and encouragement to them when they're older.
What are some of your favorite quotes? Be sure to leave us a comment below. We love being inspired by you guys and it's a great chance for anyone else who's reading the comments to get more ideas as well.
Record a voice memo
Record myself saying the affirmation and listen back during my morning routine and meditation (insert suggested video to morning routine)
Write it down
I write it on our family inspiration board to share with our kids. We talk to them about what it means and it also gives them ideas to add to their own daily affirmations. See their ABC's of affirmations here.
Draw it
Then I sketch out the quote and hand letter them on paper. What the video of me hand lettering this affirmation. I love to do something creative every day and this is something I do that helps me stay creative while practicing gratitude.
Print it
Then we print and display it somewhere in our home to keep as a daily reminder.
