It still feels like summertime here in San Diego so I thought I’d showcase this tank I converted. This was a plain gray tank before. Bor-ring. For the geek in me, I screen printed the front pocket graphic with my lovely Yudu machine.
To make the back, I cut a slit down the middle and simply sewed the open zipper to each side. Yup, it’s that easy to add an exposed zipper to your tank top.
This zipper IS functional but since I don’t intend to pull it much, I used my label as the zipper pull. It’s a fabric label and I just poked a hole in it so it can’t take much tugging but it’s the perfect place to showcase my label.
This tank was inspired by one of my favorite blogs, Trash to Couture. She takes random thrift store finds and transforms them into some amazing pieces. Here’s a link to her tutorial on adding a zipper to a tank.
Next time you think about tossing that old plain tank, try adding an exposed zipper to the back to give it a completely new look. Happy sewing!!!
