We love Halloween around here. Mostly because it allows us to be super creative and silly. Each year we think of a new theme and make our costumes around that theme. This has become one of our favorite family traditions. It allows us to tackle new challenges and make lasting memories together. It's hard to believe we have 10+ years of DIY Halloween costumes under our belt and we're still going strong.
This year for Halloween we picked a Mythical Chacater theme, which includes a dragon, gnome, and unicorn.
Here is the DIY tutorial on how to make a fairy costume.

Instructions:
I made this dress with 3 layers, green lace on top, then green knit underneath. The third layer is white organza, only under the skirt portion of the dress.
The dress is a simple tube dress. To make it:
- Measure the circumference of your child's body and add 5 inches extra for seam allowance and gathering
- Measure the length from armpit to the desired bottom of the dress
- This will give you a rectangular measurement
- Use that measurement to cut the green lace/tulle fabric
I wanted the second layer to be longer than the first, so I added 3 inches to the length.
- Cut the rectangular piece from your Green knit stretch fabric
- Using scissors, hand cut a scallop edge on both pieces of fabric. The fabrics I chose do not fray so I did not worry about hemming them.
- The White organza fabric will be the same width as the dress. to measure the length measure distance from the waist to the desired end of the dress. Double this length. It will be folded in half and made into a pocket to hold Flower petals.
- Cut, fold in half and sew sides closed.
- Fill with flower petals. This is a great job for little helpers.
- Once all the flower petals are in, sew the top closed.
- Sew to the waistline of the green knit fabric.
- Pin 2 pieces of green fabric together.
It will look like this.
- Sew around both sides and top seam.
- Once finished, sew the side seams together - creating your tube dress.
- Fold top of the dress down 1.5 inches.
- Pin and sew closed, leaving a 2-inch opening.
- Cut Elastic band to the circumference of your child's body + 1-inch seam allowance.
- Using safety pins, thread elastic band through the opening.
- Sew elastic together.
- Sew opening of dress closed.
- Cut Green satin ribbon for shoulder straps.
- Sew to top of the dress.
